I hope you would enjoy and support this my writing journey.
Nervous, dreaded with anticipation, the aggressive tap on the refresh button for my results kept me over the edge.
Usually I wasn't this nervous about things
But when you come across "phases in life"
Those were the moments you know you are gonna get worked up.
And this phase decided my fate
"I've been accepted" I said slow and deliberate releasing the breath I didn't realise I was holding onto.
"You made it gurlie!" an excited squeal left from my video call session with my bestfriend.
I shook my head to look at the results once again and yes, my entrance exam results confirmed my acceptance.
Elyria University the prestigious university name stared right at me through my laptop screen with its contents giving me the access to my dream course program....
M.A Psychology
But the course isn't what one takes up in a huff....the place I've been raised had many wondering why I would opt for such a "stereotyped", "not worthy of pursuing it as a career" option.
Doctors, engineers, lawyers, many well established and promising careers looked at me with weird stares as if mocking me for not choosing the "right option"
I have nothing against them but I've always been inclined to do what I really like, to what I really feel like home and Psychology course was that portal I knew I always needed.
The prospect of being able to understand humans, the idea of helping those in need emotionally, to listen and identify their unique thoughts and ideas and
finally to be able to cherish every experience I come across
"Gurlie we are gonna attend the same university!" my bestie squealed and I snapped back to reality. She was accepted for her LL.M (Masters of Law) thanks to the University, though we are from different branches we can see each other daily which unlocked our 5 year impatient dream of attending the same University.
Nina has been my ride-or-die since we were 5 years old. Charming, Quick witted, Diligent
"We made it through phase 1 Aarna".
"Yes we did though, I'm kinda nervous cause we are just a month away from admission and there is so much to do already" I say rubbing my ring in anxiety.
"Nervous already? you need to relax babe we have a MONTH time, I'm sure we'll figure things out smoothly but first at least inform mom and celebrate your win" she says and I nod.
It was pretty ironic how I opted for a psychology degree and yet here I am being nervous...but that doesn't stop me from taking this course, I didn't want to let my anxiety take over the life I wanted to create,
So I take a deep breath and calm myself.
"Yeah you are right but it will take mom an hour till she comes home and I want this conversation to happen with her by my side not on the phone".
"Yup it's best that way" she says relaxing her arms.
I noticed her being exhausted, after all our results were announced the same day so she must have been on edge the whole day.
"You must be tired, get some sleep I'll text you tomorrow in your free time" I say only to get an immediate frown from her.
"Text me? gurl please we NEED to catch up tomorrow and no buts, no excuses, we need to celebrate.....there's no way I'm missing out on this milestone."
She was right we earned this by our hardwork and nothing can beat a good girls day out.
"Okies then our usual spot by 2 tomorrow"
And now she was happy again....we laughed and processed our crazy entrance exam results and then wished each other good night.
I was now left with my thoughts about how mom would respond to the result,
Excitement rushed through my veins and I couldn't wait more for her arrival.
and just then the doorbell rang and my
smile reached my eyes before I headed towards the door....
